Irena Ossola – Dedication and Determination

Let There Be Light

So I’ve never been much into blogging, but in order to stay in touch with friends and family and give people an idea of what I’ve gone through and what I’m working towards I thought a blog would be a good idea.  Also, reading other runner blogs has helped me recently to figure out the severity of my injury/injuries and get an idea of how to recover.

I titled this chapter “Let There Be Light” because right now I am trying to stay positive and recognize/appreciate the “light” around me as something to learn from and keep me inspired to work for my goals.  Since this is my first post I also thought the it was rather appropriate for the beginning of what will hopefully be a successful blog.

This is also a period of great change and a sort of limbo between the school world and the real world.  I have stepped out of the comforts that school life holds with parents, dorm rooms, class schedules, and dining halls and into the harsh, exciting, independent life of being on my own.  Since I am back working in Los Alamos for my second summer/year it had not completely hit me that I had graduated and was not going back to school until I saw facebook posts and talked to my friends about moving into their new rooms and seeing everyone again.
I am excited for the future, but I miss the security of school and having a team, it’s not as exciting having to fall into a routine of work, study (GREs), “run”, home.  At this point I am motivated by the prospect or I should say plan of getting back into great running shape and moving to Italy to run competitively.
I always knew “no one cares about you” in the post collegiate running world (the wise words of Coach Clemens) but it seems different then that.  Not that no one cares about you, I think it’s that you have to care so much more about yourself,… that you have to take the responsibility to make things happen for yourself.
